Being a seasoned family law attorney with over 20 years of experience, I recognize that going through a divorce can be one of the most difficult times for you. I will guide you and advocate for you through this difficult process.
The law on retirement is complex and not many family law attorneys are familiar with different types of retirement benefits and how they should be divided. I can help you with this as I am one of the few attorneys in Hawaii who specialize in the division of retirement benefits and orders dividing retirement plans (QDROs, Military Qualifying Court Orders, Court Orders Acceptable for Processing, Thrift Savings Plan orders, and Hawaii Domestic Relations Orders). Often times, retirement benefits are the largest assets in the marital estate in Hawaii, and obtaining correct advice and receiving the right assistance is critical in securing what you are entitled to under the law.
Japanese is my native language as I was born and raised in Japan. Since I am fluent in the language and familiar with the Japanese culture, I am able to assist Japanese-speaking clients effectively. I can also provide effective service to clients who have Japanese-speaking spouses on the other side or family law issues involving parties and assets in Japan.
Before opening the Law Office of Naoko C. Miyamoto, I worked at Kleintop & Luria, LLP (formerly known as Stirling & Kleintop and Kleintop, Luria & Medeiros), a prominent Honolulu family law firm, for over 20 years, practicing family law exclusively.
I was born and raised in Japan and lived in Japan until the end of my junior year in high school. I moved to California for my father’s work in 1992 and went to high school in California for my senior year. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997 and from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii with a Juris Doctor degree in 2000. At law school, I served as a Comments Editor on the University of Hawaii Law Review. After graduating from law school, I clerked for Associate Justice Simeon R. Acoba, Jr. (Ret.) of the Hawaii Supreme Court from 2000 to 2001.
I have been selected for the Best Lawyers in America and the Best Lawyers in Hawaii for my work in Family Law for four (4) consecutive years. I have also served as Treasurer for the Family Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association from 2015 to 2023.
During my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband and our daughter and spending time with our French bulldog.
